Mic Determination Of The Top Active Essential Oils

We carried out antibiotic susceptibility testing to determine the activity of the top 8 active essential oils against growing E. coli. As shown in Table 2, Oregano was the most effective agent in inhibiting E. coli, with the lowest MIC in our study. The growth of E. coli was efficiently suppressed by Cinnamon bark at the concentration of 0.03%. While the other six essential oils were active with the same MIC value of 0.125%. Clinical drug fosfomycin included as a control inhibited the growth of E. coli growing cells with MIC of 16 µg/mL.

Take your health seriously! Know when a bladder infection home remedy is warranted and when itâs not. Know your body. And know your doctor well. Choose one you trust deeply, who doesnât overprescribe antibiotics , and who supports seeking natural and alternative remedies whenever possible.

(P.S. If you do choose to take an antibiotic, be sure to follow it with a regimen of probiotics for at least 6 months to completely restore the good bacteria to your system.

Development Of Essential Oil Drug Combinations To Eradicate Stationary Phase E Coli In Vitro

According to our previous research and this study, clinical drugs used to treat UTIs had limited activity to kill E. coli persisters. To more effectively eradicate the stationary phase E. coli, essential oil drug combinations were studied using clinical drugs in combination with Oregano . The results showed that some drug combinations were indeed much more effective than single drugs . Among them, quinolone drug essential oil combinations including tosufloxacin + Oregano, levofloxacin + Oregano and ciprofloxacin + Oregano could completely eradicate all the stationary phase E. coli after seven-day exposure. Meanwhile, nitrofurantoin + Oregano combination killed the majority of stationary phase cells with 103 CFU/mL cells remaining, showing much better activity than single drug nitrofurantoin and somewhat better activity than single Oregano . In contrast, other drug combinations such as sulfamethoxazole + Oregano, trimethoprim + Oregano, meropenem + Oregano, cefdinir + Oregano and fosfomycin + Oregano had less activity against stationary phase cells, with 105 CFU/mL bacterial cells remaining even after seven-day exposure, suggesting these combinations were not significantly better than Oregano alone .

How To Use Essential Oils To Relieve Uti Pain

NATURAL REMEDY for UTI || How to cure UTI using Essential Oils

Apply It Topically

To help reduce discomfort, dilute 2 drops of Defend in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil, then apply to your abdomen or the soles of your feet. Cover the application area with a hot compress or heating pad and rest for several minutes.

Diffuse It

Another simple way to use Defend to relieve symptoms is through aromatherapy. Fill your diffusers reservoir with fresh water, add as many drops of Defend as are recommended by the manufacturer, then turn it on and relax for a while.

Add It To A Bath

I like this approach because its sort of the best of both worlds between topical application and aromatherapy. Its very relaxing and a great way to take your mind off the misery of dealing with a UTI.

If you add Defend or any other essential oil directly to your bath water, it will just float on the surface and not do you much good. So instead, I recommend stirring 5-8 drops of Defend into 1 cup of Epsom salt, then adding the infused Epsom salt mixture to your bath water.

How To Make A Sitz Baths Postpartum or UTI | Essential Oil Blend

A UTI, or urinary tract infection, is caused by organisms that are too small to be seen without a microscope, including fungi, viruses and bacteria. Despite the bodys many natural defenses, certain bacteria have the ability to attach themselves to the lining of the urinary tract and inhabit the urethra, bladder and kidneys. The majority of UTI cases are caused by E. colibacterium that can live in the bowel and vaginal cavities, around the urethral opening, and in the urinary tract.

Other significant pathogens that can cause UTIs include Proteus mirabilis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Klebsiella pneumonia. In diabetic patients, Klebsiella and group B streptococcus infections are more common. Pseudomonas infections are more common in chronically catheterized patients.

Urinary tract infections are extremely common, especially among sexually active women ages 18 to 24. Although a UTI isnt typically complicated or life-threatening, it does cause pain and suffering and negatively impacts ones quality of life.

Generally, symptoms of a UTI in adults may include:

  • pain when urinating
  • a burning sensation in the bladder or urethra when urinating
  • a strong, frequent urge to urinate, but only passing small amounts
  • urine that appears red or bright pink
  • strong-smelling urine
  • people with suppressed immune systems

Is Diffusing Essential Oils Around Cats Safe

Welcome to the community, Dr. Bahr! Many of my friends are posting on Facebook a warning about diffusing essential oils around cats. Is this really a concern? I have been using them but want to know if I should stop.

Im so glad you asked about essential oils and cats and the answer to your question is YES, I have some concerns. However, they may not be exactly the same ones you have been hearing about. My concerns are more general in nature and deal with all of the smells cats living in four walls are exposed to.

Cats are born without sight or sound and manipulate the first few weeks of life almost completely by smell. Scent is an essential component of their existence. The importance of smell to a cat cannot be emphasized enough. Now imagine what it must be like for our feline companions to live within four walls devoid of fresh air. Our cats smell only those scents we place in our homes. Instead of smelling grass, soil, garbage, and other wonderful natural elements, our kitties deal with the smell of cleaning supplies, the food we cook, things we put on our skin and bodies, or scent that we spray and burn. My two most recent blogs at discuss the importance of smell and ways to use scent as enrichment for indoor cats to enjoy. I urge all owners to become more aware of the effects all of the products they use in their home and on their bodies have on their cats that live indoors.
