Foods To Eat For A Uti
In order to recover from a UTI as soon as possible, you may want to try consuming the following foods:
- Berries. Although researchers are still studying their effectiveness, its believed that eating cranberries, blueberries, and raspberries can help fight off a UTI. They contain proanthocyanidin, which has been shown to prevent infection-causing bacteria from adhering to the lining of the urinary tract.
- Probiotic-rich foods. Try incorporating foods like plain Greek yogurt, pickles, and sauerkraut into your diet, since they contain good bacteria that can help combat an infection.
- High-fiber foods. Foods that are high in fibersuch as bananas, beans, lentils, nuts, oats, and other whole grainscan help remove harmful bacteria from your body. They also encourage regular bowel movements, which can help relieve some bladder pressure.
- Salmon. Cold-water fish contain omega-3 fatty acids, which can help reduce inflammation caused by a UTI. Fish oil supplements are another great alternative for individuals who dont eat fish always consult your doctor before adding any supplements to your diet.
What Is A Uti
A urinary tract infection occurs when bacteria enter your urethra and cause an infection in your urinary tract. Bacteria cause most UTIs, but rarely they can result from a fungus. UTIs are also called bladder infections.
UTIs can impact both men and women but are more prevalent in women. About 50% of women are likely to have a UTI at some point in their lifetime. One of the main reasons women are more likely to get a UTI is because their urethra is shorter than a mans, which means bacteria dont have to travel as far to reach the bladder and urinary tract system.
Urinary tract infections are especially problematic during pregnancy and can lead to preterm delivery. They are also more common in menopausal women because a drop in estrogen can trigger UTIs.
If a UTI goes untreated, it can spread to your kidneys and cause a kidney infection, which is why UTI prevention and prompt treatment are so important.

If youve ever had a urinary tract infection , then you know that you want relief fast. Have A Uti Do This First

If you suspect you have a UTI, schedule an as-soon-as-possible appointment with your doctor or OBGYN. Your doctor will perform a physical examination and order a urine test to determine if you have a UTI, as well as prescribe any necessary medication, such as an antibiotic and pain treatment. In the meantime, increase your water intake so you will urinate more often, which helps flush bacteria from your urinary tract.

Treating A Dog With A Uti
If a veterinarian does diagnose your dog with a urinary tract infection after running tests, theres a good chance that they will prescribe antibiotics to treat it. However, assuming that antibiotics will completely eliminate health problems for your dog is not safe to do. In general, UTIs are caused by an existing health issue, some of which are caused by diet and water intake. Making sure that your dogs diet is conducive to maintaining urinary tract health is absolutely crucial, especially when pre-existing conditions, such as diabetes, may be responsible for the UTI to begin with. Thankfully there are a variety of dog foods available that are specifically designed to promote urinary tract health. A huge factor in preventing continued urinary tract problems in dogs is daily water intake, so switching to wet or moist food is highly recommended, otherwise a dry food specifically designed to help treat and prevent UTIs.

How Do I Know If My Dog Has A Urinary Tract Infection
Common symptoms of lower urinary tract problems in dogs meaning an infection no further up the system than the bladder include: difficulty urinating, more attempts than usual to urinate, dribbling of urine, breaking housetraining, licking around the urinary tract opening, and blood in the urine, as well as foul smelling, discolored urine.
If the infection is more local to the kidneys an upper urinary tract infection, your dog may have trouble with eating and appetite, might exhibit weight loss symptoms, and may vomit more than usual. If an upper UTI becomes more serious, your dog may become lethargic, have a fever, and/or experience soreness in the abdomen.
Both types of urinary tract problems in dogs are very dangerous if left untreated. UTIs are more common in female dogs than male, but if a male dog has a urinary tract infection, it could become life-threatening. If your dog displays any symptoms of a UTI, you should take him or her to a vet immediately.

A Persons Diet Acidity Of Urine May Affect Susceptibility To Utis
The acidity of urine as well as the presence of small molecules related to diet may influence how well bacteria can grow in the urinary tract, a new study shows. The research, at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, may have implications for treating urinary tract infections, which are among the most common bacterial infections worldwide.
The study appears in the June 26 issue of The Journal of Biological Chemistry.
Urinary tract infections often are caused by a strain of bacteria called Escherichia coli , and doctors long have relied on antibiotics to kill the microbes. But increasing bacterial resistance to these drugs is leading researchers to look for alternative treatment strategies.
Many physicians can tell you that they see patients who are particularly susceptible to urinary tract infections, said senior author Jeffrey P. Henderson, MD, PhD, assistant professor of medicine. We often dont know why certain people seem to be prone to recurrent UTIs. For a long time, we had inexpensive antibiotics that worked really well for this. But over the last 10-15 years, we have seen a huge jump in bacterial infections that are resistant to many of these drugs.
We could divide these urine samples into two groups based on whether they permitted or restricted bacterial growth, Henderson said. Then we asked, what is special about the urine samples that restricted growth?
