Eye Infection And Urinary Infection

Drink Plenty Of Fluids

Urinary Tract Infections

Dehydration is linked to an increased risk of UTIs.

This is because regular urination can help flush bacteria from the urinary tract to prevent infection. When youre dehydrated, you arent urinating as often, which can create a breeding ground for bacteria.

A examined nursing home residents and administered a drinking schedule to participants to increase their fluid intake. Following the schedule decreased UTIs requiring antibiotics by 56%.

In a 2020 randomized control trial , 140 premenopausal participants prone to UTIs took part in a 12-month study to test if a higher fluid intake would decrease their risk of recurrent cystitis and, in turn, their risk of developing a UTI. Researchers found that an increase in fluid intake led to a decrease in UTI frequency.

To stay hydrated and meet your fluid needs, its best to drink water throughout the day and always when youre thirsty.

Benefits of drinking more fluids for UTI

Drinking plenty of liquids can decrease your risk of UTIs by making you pee more, which helps remove bacteria from your urinary tract.

evidence suggests that increasing your intake of vitamin C could protect against UTIs.

Vitamin C is thought to work by increasing the acidity of urine, killing off the bacteria that cause infection.

An older 2007 study of UTIs in pregnant women looked at the effects of taking 100 milligrams of vitamin C every day.

Fruits and vegetables are especially high in vitamin C and are a good way to increase your intake.

Treatment Of Eye Infections

Eye infections, despite the potential danger of their symptoms, often represent relatively easy diseases to treat as long as the means are available.

Many of them are self-limiting, that is, the body will end up healing them on its own. In case the immune system cannot or if you want to speed up the process, there are treatments.

In the case of bacterial infections, it is usually enough to apply ophthalmic drops with antibiotics, which must be prescribed by a doctor. With regard to viral infections, we will have to wait for the body to fight them, helping it with the application of creams and compresses. For yeast infections, there are also antifungal medications that eliminate them.

Prevention Of Eye Infections

Since the symptoms can be very bothersome and some of the infections are difficult to treat, it is best to prevent the development of these diseases.

The best measures to do this are the following:

  • Don’t touch your eyes with dirty hands
  • Avoid contact with infected people
  • Adequate personal hygiene measures
  • In case of wearing contact lenses, respect the rules of use
  • Avoid bathing in dirty water

Injecting antibiotics or antifungal medicines in the eye helps preserve your vision and protect your eyes from further bacterial attacks.

The doctor chooses the antibiotic depending on the type of organism causing the infection. Some doctors also opt for intravenous antibiotics.

People with extremely poor vision are given corticosteroids. If you have severe inflammation and soreness in your eyes, you may also receive a steroid to reduce these symptoms.

You may receive steroids orally or through an injection into the eye after the antibiotic treatment.

In serious cases, doctors may recommend surgery to remove the infected tissue from the eye. It prevents the infection from getting worse.

In extreme cases, a surgical procedure called vitrectomy may be needed. In this procedure, the doctor removes the infected vitreous gel from your eye. Then, a medicine is injected to prevent the infection in the future.

What Is A Urinary Tract Infection

UTI can be extremely uncomfortable because it can lead to itching and burning sensation while urinating. According to NCBI , around 5060 percent of women will develop UTIs in their lifetimes. Do you know why women are prone to UTIs? Well, women have a short urethra compared to men, which shortens the distance and due to this bacteria can travel easily to reach the bladder.

Dr Gaikwad says, UTI means the infection of any part of the urinary system that is the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. Women tend to suffer from it more when compared to men. The UTI is painful, embarrassing, and annoying, and even leads to serious kidney complications if it spreads there.

And thats why prompt treatment is necessary to prevent UTI from developing into a more serious condition.

Uti’s Can Be A Common Concern For Kids

One in five children who have one UTI will have more. Unfortunately, long-term studies have demonstrated little success with antibiotics. Based on the research, prevention appears the best approach with a focus on education and proper care. For those children who do suffer from a UTI, cranberry juice may be effective.

What Is An Eye Infection

An eye infection is a disease that develops when pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses or parasites invade an area of ââthe eyeball or nearby areas. It includes, therefore, infections in the cornea , the conjunctiva , eyelids, retina, etc.

There are many different types of eye infectionsTherefore, a correct diagnosis is vital to subsequently apply the most appropriate treatment. In most cases they are easy to cure the problem comes in underdeveloped countries, where they do not have access to the necessary therapies.

Despite being able to affect anyone, they tend to be more common in children or in people with hygiene or health problems, especially if they have a weakened immune system.

Conjunctivitis Caused By Bacteria

Dr. ETV | Urinary Track Infection | 10th June 2017 | à°¡à°¾à°à±?à°à°°à±? à°à°à°¿à°µà±

Antibiotics are helpful only in bacterial conjunctivitis. However, because it is difficult to distinguish between bacterial and viral infections, some doctors prescribe antibiotics for everyone with conjunctivitis. Antibiotic eye drops or ointments, such as moxifloxacin, ciprofloxacin, or trimethoprim/polymyxin, which are effective against many types of bacteria, are used for 7 to 10 days. Drops are usually effective, but ointments are sometimes used because they last longer if the eye is watering a lot. Some people may not want to use ointments because they can blur vision for up to 20 minutes after they are applied.

Inclusion conjunctivitis requires antibiotics, such as azithromycin, doxycycline, or erythromycin, which are taken by mouth.

Gonococcal conjunctivitis may be treated with a single injection of ceftriaxone and a single dose of azithromycin taken by mouth.

Conjunctivitis of the newborn is prevented by routinely giving silver nitrate eye drops or erythromycin ointment to all infants at birth. If an infection develops despite these treatments, newborns are given drugs depending on which bacterium is causing the infection. Infections caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae are treated with ceftriaxone given by vein or injected into a muscle. Infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis are treated with erythromycin. The parents should also be treated.

Uveitis: Eye Infection Could Indicate Auto

You’ve heard the phrase “eyes are the window to the soul,” but to doctors eyes really can be a window into the body. A fairly common eye infection, Uveitis, can indicate a much more serious immune disorder like rheumatoid arthritis or Crohn’s disease.

Symptoms include severe light sensitivity, redness and pain. Even a cell phone light could cause severe pain.

“The patients will have a lot of photo-phobia. Even light going into an eye that’s not involved will cause the contraction or movement of the iris on the opposite side and they’ll get intense pain,” said Dr. Don Bravin, ophthalmologist at The Eye Clinic.

Uveitis, or more commonly called Iritis, is an inflammation of the eye tissues most often around the iris.

“The eye looks red like a pink eye or something like that. There’s much more pain involved than ordinary conjunctivitis, you know pink eye type thing is not painful. It’s annoying, but not painful,” explained Dr. Bravin.

He sees several patients a month with the infection and about 80 percent of the time he cannot explain what caused it.

“The most common kind of anterior uveitis we don’t know what causes it,” explained Dr. Bravin.

The infection could point to some serious auto-immune problems like rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory disorders like Chron’s.

“Why the eye is attacked this way, we don’t know. There’s a link, we don’t know why, but between joint diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, urinary tract infections, lung problems”

Conjunctivitis Caused By Viruses

Most people with viral conjunctivitis get better in a week or two and do not need any specific treatment. However, corticosteroid eye drops may be needed in some people with the severe adenoviral conjunctivitis , particularly in those in whom blurring and glare are interfering with important activities. Cyclosporine eye drops are less effective and are prescribed infrequently, typically when corticosteroid drops cause unacceptable side effects.

What Causes Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence can be caused by many different medical problems, including weak pelvic muscles or diabetes. Some common causes are listed below.

  • For men, enlarged prostate gland or prostate surgery
  • Weakened and stretched pelvic muscles after childbirth
  • Certain medicines

Treatment is keyed to the type of incontinence. The usual approaches are as follows:

  • Stress incontinence â Surgery, pelvic floor physiotherapy, anti-incontinence devices, and medication
  • Urge incontinence â Changes in diet, behavioral modification, pelvic-floor exercises, and/or medications and new forms of surgical intervention
  • Mixed incontinence â Anticholinergic drugs and surgery
  • Overflow incontinence â Catheterization regimen or diversion
  • Functional incontinence â Treatment of the underlying cause

Some experts recommend a trial of medical therapy before considering surgical treatment. Others believe that if the incontinence is severe and correctable by surgical means, a trial of medical therapy is not mandatory and need not be performed if the informed patient chooses to proceed directly to surgery.

Treatment of comorbid disease may minimize incontinence episodes. Measures such as smoking cessation, control of asthma, and relief of chronic constipation may be beneficial.
