Pau darco has generated much excitement online for being an alternative therapy for many conditions, not least of which is the treatment of UTI. This is why weve covered it in our list of the top 10 most searched UTI home remedies.
From some of the hype it may be tempting to believe a cure all has been discovered, that is free from the hazards and side-effects associated with western, orthodox medicine.
But its important to remember that among the few studies that have been conducted into potential pau darco benefits, hazardous possible side-effects have been discovered. Some of these may be relevant to sufferers of a chronically inflamed bladder.
Pau darcos merits as anti-infective agent are also questionable as there have been mixed results. The scientific study of pau darco is far from complete.

The Use Of Medicinal Plants
The use of medicinal plants for incontinence can sound questionable and unlikely. However phototherapy is a medical practice that focuses on the impact of plants on various incontinence symptoms.
Herbs can be bought by a qualified herbalist or you can discuss with a natural health practitioner.
Interestingly, researchers have found certain plants to have the following benefits:
- Improving inflammation
- Diminishing the effects of menopause
- Avoiding constipation
Here are a few interesting ones that deserve mentioning:
- Raspberry leaf. This is an interesting herb, which has been proven to strengthen the uterine and pelvic muscles. It can also help with pelvic organ prolapse
- St. John’s Wort. Known to help depression, these can help incontinence caused by nerves problems.
- Horsechestnut. The bark from this tree is effective for inflammation of the prostate. It is often used for overflow or urge incontinence.
- Carob Tree. Interestingly, seeds of this tree are known to prevent constipation. This is specially helpful in preventing faecal compaction and overflow incontinence.
- Yarrow. This is a bitter herb that can tone the bladder and uterus. It is also a urinary antiseptic, clearing congestion and provides good circulation to the pelvic area.
Minimum Inhibitory Concentration Determination
The minimum inhibitory concentration of the green tea extract was determined by agar dilution method. MHA plates that contained various concentrations of green tea extract were prepared. Suspensions of 0.5 McFarland standard dilutions were prepared from bacterial cultures grown overnight in LB broth. A 10-4 dilution of these suspensions was prepared, and 100 l of dilution per plate was inoculated using a spread plate technique . Inoculated plates were incubated at 37° C for 48 h, and on the basis of colony counts, the MIC was determined as the lowest concentration of green tea extract to show an inhibitory effect on growth of the bacteria . Each strain was tested three times.

Look For Companies That Test Essential Oil Quality
The best companies hire an independent third party to test each batch of oil as it is made. The tests they perform are called gas chromatographymass spectrometry reports. They show how much of each bioactive compound is present in the oil.
Also, because oils can degrade over time, good manufacturers also print an expiration date on the label, Chesla says.
The results of these tests should be made available to you, either on the companys website or sent to you if you phone and ask. Chesla recommends that you take the report to your doctor, who should recognize the chemical components. That way if there are any concerns with interactions with other medicines you might be taking, your doctor will be informed.

Where Do I Get Tea Supplements And Do I Need A Prescription
Many animals are simply provided with dried green tea mixed in their pet food. Pet owners are cautioned against buying supplements without knowledge of the manufacturer, as supplements are not highly regulated and some supplements may not contain the labelled amount of ingredients. Your veterinarian may have preferred supplements that he or she will recommend. A prescription is not needed for tea supplements.

Chamomile tea is perhaps the most popular herbal tea. It can help you relax. In fact, some people drink chamomile tea to fall asleep. In folk medicine, chamomile tea has many other uses. Experts Recommend The Following Medication
Antibiotics are increasingly triggering pathogen resistance worldwide, which is why it makes sense to initially treat a simple bladder infection without antibiotics. Infants under the age of 3 should, however, always be seen by a doctor. Experts suggest an alternative to initial antibiotic treatment:
- Cantharis Blasen Globuli velati WALA and/or
- Berberis/Apis comp. pill. WALA, initially 510 pill. hourly, in alternation, later 3 x 510 pill. daily.
Turmeric Prevents The Growth Of Uropathogens
The role of cell to cell communication is an important aspect of bacterial infections. This process is called as quorum sensing.
Quorum sensing helps bacteria to change its genetic expressions in order to release virulence factors or the molecules that help in their colonization on a host.
In the case of UTIs, quorum sensing is involved in the infection by bacteria such as, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It further leads to biofilm formation.
E. coli virulence factors also lead to biofilm formation.
Turmeric possesses anti-quorum sensing activity as well.
Curcumin has been found to interfere with the quorum sensing system of the pathogens in UTIs. This disturbs the biofilm and prevents further colonization of these pathogens in the urinary tract.
Curcumin has also been shown to work in synergy with the antibiotics to destroy the biofilms more effectively.
What does it mean?It means the use of turmeric can strengthen the defence system of the body against the pathogens. Turmeric can prevent colonization and biofilm formation by the pathogens and thus prevent UTIs. Moreover, turmeric can accentuate the activity of antibiotics against the biofilms.

Additional Herbs For Utis
There are herbs, such as goldenseal and Oregon grape that do both needed jobs: they one, kill bacteria and strengthen the immune system and two, they also prevent the infectious E-Coli bacteria from sticking to the walls of the bladder and urethra, so they are rinsed off with urination.
It makes sense that those who struggle with UTIs are probably only seeing the tip of the iceberg. This one symptom may be a red flag. What underlying issues in your body may also need to be addressed? Leaky gut and pathogen overgrowth are often the root cause.
2018 Update I have now heard from so many of you! Thank you for emailing or commenting to let me know how much you like this remedy! I also have a family member who recently needed this remedy. She found complete relief the same day from her symptoms. These herbs really are powerful, wonderful and fast!
Manuka Honey For Chronic Bladder Infections
Dealing with chronic urinary tract infection is more than a pain in the butt. Its a pain in the bladder and potentially the kidneys if you dont get it under control quickly.
And right now, the only solution your doctor can offer you is antibiotics. But theres a big problem with antibiotics youve probably heard about
People are becoming resistant to them. Especially the antibiotics used to treat bladder infections because theyve been prescribed so frequently for so long.
In fact, its been determined that one of the antibiotics most commonly used to treat UTIs already has a 50 percent resistance rate. That means this antibiotic doesnt do anything for half the people who need it.
With antibiotic resistance on the rise, more and more people are turning to natural remedies to prevent and get rid of urinary tract infections. And there are a lot of natural remedies to choose from cranberry juice, D-mannose, vitamin C, goldenseal.
But if honey is not on your list of infection-fighting natural remedies it should be. Because a recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Pathology found that Manuka honey can help treat chronic and reoccurring UTIs.
Ive put Manuka honey to the test myself plenty of times.
Last year I fell and ended up with a nasty cut on my forehead and I promptly slathered it with Manuka honey the best antibacterial treatment you can keep at home, I believe.

How Much Experience Is There With The Use Of Tea In Pets
In humans, epidemiological research suggests that regular consumption of green tea reduces the incidence of colon, pancreatic, and stomach cancers. Clinical trials using green tea are limited in number. The use of tea supplements in dogs and cats has likewise not been proven in clinical trials but its effectiveness is assumed based upon studies in people and laboratory animals. Tea supplements are rarely used alone, but are usually combined with other supplements as part of an integrated approach to cancer management.

Factors Affecting The Efficacy Of Green Tea
The strength and effectiveness of green tea depend on the amount of the tea consumed. Studies have shown that men who take large quantities of green tea regularly enjoy more prostate health benefits from the tea than those who take the tea occasionally or in small amounts. The amount of catechins in green tea also depends on where the plants are grown, how the tea leaves are harvested and how the leaves are processed. For instance, Japanese green teas usually have greater quantities of catechins than Chinese teas, with slight differences within specific groups. Remember that the power of green tea comes from the fact that its leaves are not oxidized and are able to retain essential substances such as the catechins that promote both general health and prostate health.

Ginger For Uti Infections
Another best tea for UTI is ginger. To examine why, lets once again look at the kidneys according to TCM theory. The kidneys are the source of Yin and Yang. You might know that Yin and Yang are balancing energies. The kidneys balance warming and cooling in the body.
What does this have to do with ginger tea? Again, the kidneys are part of your urinary tract. Ginger helps your kidneys operate efficiently.
Also, ginger contains anti-inflammatory properties. It also contains disease-fighting antioxidants.
And research seems to support ginger tea for uti. This study concludes ginger and a prescription vaginal cream together work effectively. In fact, more so than the vaginal cream alone. Especially in patients with vaginal candida overgrowth.
Another study on ginger says its an excellent fungus killer. Yeast is a fungus. The researchers conclude that ginger has a place in antimicrobial therapy.

For men, living long enough means you are going to have problems with your prostate. While the prostate is typically a small, walnut-sized gland in young males, it undergoes two phases of growth later on in life which often result in urinary problems. The first phase of growth occurs during puberty and usually doubles the size of the gland, while the second phase of growth begins at around 25 and continues for the rest of your life leading to benign prostatic enlargement . More than 50 percent of men have BPH by the age of 60 and experience urinary difficulties. Although prescription medications are commonly used to treat BPH, herbal supplements may provide much needed relief during the initial stages of the condition. One such herbal solution is green tea.
